About TARA
TARA-Technological Assistance for Rural Advancement is a non-Government organisation registered under different authorities. It has been working in fisheries field (apart from other activities) and has a pool of fisheries biologists and technical people to perform the job. It has been working with WorldFish Center and also involved in Fisheries Research with University teacher and students. TARA is registered with NGO Bureau and Social Welfare Department.

Fish Habitat Restoration
CBRMP-LGED Swamp Forestry Development
Providing technical assistance for swamp forestry development along six beels in 5 upazilas in Sunamganj.
IC SAAKTI-Fish Sanctuary Habitat Restoration
Worked with Intercooperation Bangladesh, Sunamganj Regional Office, to provide technical support in establishing advanced fish sanctuaries and habitat restoration in Sunamganj since 01 September 2007.

Study on Benefit/Impact on Fish Sanctuary under BFRF
This one year conducted in different parts of the country jointly with investigators from BCAS and BAU.
Fish Sanctuary work under WorldFish Centre -DFID -CBFM-DoF
Involved under DFID assisted Community Based Fisheries Management (CBFM) project in operation and maintenance of fish sanctuary activities with Network of Fish Sanctuaries and Department of Fisheries.

Fishpass Workshop with FAO
TARA along with Bangladesh Agricultural University conducted a one day workshop on “Adhoc Workshop on Fishpasses” under technical assistance of FAO, Rome.

Strategy on Acquisition of Waterbody Development for LEAF-IC
Conducted a short study in 2006 for Intercooperation for its LEAF Project in Sunamganj.
Fish Value Chain and Marketing
CLP-MDF-Fish Marketing
Worked with MMS and RSDA in Sirajganj and Kurigram respectively on Fish Production and Marketing in Char environment.
Study on Aquacultural Products enhancement possibilities in Peri Urban areas under BFRF
TARA was a NGO partner of this small study (Nov 06 to April 07). The study is to cover the resource identification and mapping of existing per-urban areas resources dependent on aquatic environment and to find out the limitations and opportunities of enhancement of aquacultural products to benefit poor people living around Dhaka City and to contribute in the market with the products.
Value Chain Analysis of Dry Fish in Coastal area of Bangladesh
This study was conducted in Kuakata, Rangabali, Patharghata and Dublarchar area funded by Bangladesh Fisheries Research Forum (BFRF) which was funded by Starling University, UK. This is a coordinated project and other two investigators are from COAST Trust (for Cox’s Bazar) and from BAU (for Teknaf area). Study period was April 2005-March 2006.
Aquaculture
Aquacultural Activities under WorldFish Centre-DSAP-USAID
Involved under USAID assisted Development of Sustainable Aquaculture Programme (DSAP) as AP-NGO in Durgapur, Purbadhala and Phulpur Upazilas in Netrokona and Mymensingh Districts.
Aquaculture Training for CCDB Staff
TARA was involved by DSAP of WorldFish Center for giving training to CCDB Field staff on aquaculture.
Integrated Farming
FAO Tele-Food Programme in Bhurungamari
This programme implemented with FAO assistance in Kurigramme. Under this programme integrated farming was practiced in six schools in Bhurungamari.
Juvenile Justice
Releasing Children from Jail and Shelter House and Advocacy for Juvenile Justice under DANIDA HRGG
This programme started in September 2006 and for two years. Under this programme TARA gave input on system development along with releasing children from confinement.
Jail Children Programme under Canadian CIDA
Involved with CIDA in working with children of Dhaka Jail with cooperation of Social Welfare Department and BLAST to release children from Jail through legal procedure.

Livelihood analysis and alternative livelihood options of Hilsa Fisher in the coastal areas of Bangladesh
TARA was involved in this study as partner organization. Livelihoods option of Hilsha Fishers in the Coastal Areas was the focus of this study.
Species Composition and Hilsha Fisheries in the Meghna River: Ministry of Science and Information Technology
TARA was involved in the Study on species composition with reference to Hilsha in Lower Meghna River and fisher community around Chandpur in 2004-2005.
Surveys
Fisheries Resource Survey in Bhola, Barisal, Pirojpur and Jhalokathi
Survey/Study was conducted in 2003-2005 in 28 Upazilas of the four Districts. This study was conducted under DANIDA assisted fisheries programme along with Department of Fisheries, Patuakhali Barguna Aquaculture Extension Project (PBAEP) through Household Survey (in 1200 households) and Extension Service Providers (ESP) Information and also shown the resources in 28 Upazila maps.
Socio-economic Baseline Survey of Jalmahals
Conducted this study in Patuakhali and Barguna under DANIDA assisted fisheries programme along with Department of Fisheries, Patuakhali Barguna Aquaculture Extension Project (PBAEP) through PRA and Household Survey in 2003-2004.
Thunder Lightning Safety
Awareness on Lightning Safety Awareness under Clombo University
This was a programme under SARI Energy. Later part TARA participated in many programmes in Sri Lanka, Bhutan, and USA on this aspect.
Other
Fisheries Activities in the Jamuna Char areas under Chars Livelihoods Programme (CLP-DFID)
TARA worked under CLP to implement several fisheries activities. In First Phase (Dec-2005 to January 2006) reviewed the activities and in Phase II (January-June 2006) implementing number of fisheries activities like stocking in dead rivers, sanctuary, nursery, hapa breeding, savar fishing, fish drying, net weaving, pond fish culture value addition and fish marketing channel development.

TARA assisted CBRMP-LGED in Developing Access Based Fisheries Database for Community Based Resource Management Project in 2006.
Environmental Impact Assessment Work (Fisheries Part) CEGIS
Assisted CEGIS in conducting fisheries part of Baseline, Impact Assessment, developing Fisheries Environmental Management Plan and Monitoring Plan in a study in Dhaka. Study conduced in 2005.
Aquaculture and Fisheries Management Programme in Dampara Water Management Project
Involved in implementation of fisheries mitigation and enhancement work including with fisher and alternate employment generation in Netrokona which was Canadian CIDA funded project of BWDB.

Involved in preparation of a documentary fish film on project’s fisheries activities.
Integrated Haor Area Development
Worked with Bangladesh Haor and Wetland Development Board (BHWDB) in Sunamganj.
