Strength of TARA in Training: Present and Past Experience

Training to the beneficiaries, as well as NGO staff is necessary for improving the knowledge and skill for scientific management of their schemes-thus increased fish production. TARA has some experts specialized on planning, scheduling and imparting training, courses to the grassroots level. TARA executed several training programs of some national NGOs on Agriculture. The said training courses were implemented on participatory basis. There were two different modules, one for the extension workers and another for the beneficiaries. Initially, two days theoretical courses were taken in the classroom. Rest, 3 days were scheduled as practical courses and the classes were taken at the pond side of the group leaders. There, several posters and flipcharts were displayed in the pond side and purposes described accordingly. Methods of reexcavation, pond development, pond preparation, liming, fertilizing the pond etc., were demonstrated through direct participation of the beneficiaries. Finally, the participants were taken an oral test in ratting their skills based on set- questionnaires.

The team believes that to implement any development activities training on any particular issue should be specific and timely i.e. to strike iron while it is hot. Training helps to increase the capacity of target groups thus risks of development schemes would possibly be avoided. However, follow up of any courses would be helpful to increase the group capacity further.
